03-16-20 Update #2

Out of the abundance of caution and to help curtail the possibility of community spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Town of Secaucus will be implementing the following procedures effective Monday, March 16, 2020:

Secaucus Municipal Center and Department Offices

  • Physical public access to all Secaucus municipal offices will be suspended through at least Sunday, March 29, 2020. This includes but may not be limited to: Departments within Town Hall at 1203 Paterson Plank Road, Recreation Department (20 Centre Avenue), Health Department (20 Centre Avenue), Department of Public Works (370 Secaucus Road), and Senior Service Department (145 Front Street). Prior to March 29th, the administration will make a continuing determination as to public access.
  • The lobby of Town Hall, 1203 Paterson Plank Road, will be open to the public weekdays from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. for access to the Tax Collector and Construction Department Drop Boxes, Secaucus Municipal Court payment window and public restrooms only.
  • All Departments will currently be open and Town Staff will be available to the public during the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. to answer questions and concerns via telephone and email only. No in office visitation will be permitted for the duration of this protocol and/or extension of such as noted above.

Tax Collector

  • The lobby of Town Hall, 1203 Paterson Plank Road, will be open to the public weekdays from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. for access to the Tax Collector’s Drop Box. Residents are encouraged to make their payments online using the “Online Tax Payment” link by visiting the website: https://secaucusnj.gov/departments/tax. Please call 201-330-2021 with any other questions.

Department of Social Services

  • All routes of the Secaucus Shuttle and Senior Transport Shuttles are suspended with the exception of food stores and other locations for essential items. Please check the website or call 201-865-4422 for up to date schedules.
  • Medical transport is currently continuing normal operation with appointments only to locations other than hospitals. Please call 201-330-2082 with any questions. Telephone screening for COVID-19 prior to any transport will occur.

Secaucus Police Department Records

  • Routine reports can be requested via phone at 201-330-2050 or via facsimile 201-330-2046. Reports will be emailed, faxed, or mailed to you at the location requested. Please note that request response may take longer than usual during this time. 

Secaucus Municipal Court

  • Secaucus Municipal Court has been cancelled from Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020.
  • Persons who are scheduled to appear before the court to contest a traffic or parking ticket, or minor local ordinance violation are advised that they should not appear and should await notice of a new court date.
  • The Secaucus Municipal Court Office will currently remain open for necessary filings and payments but residents are strongly urged to pay any violations via the Municipal Court online payment system at NJMCDirect.com.
  • Please call the Secaucus Municipal Court at 201-330-2056 with any other questions.

Construction Department

  • Permit application drop off will occur via a drop box in the Town Hall lobby. Permit pick up will be available by appointment only. Please call 201-330-2027 for appointments or for any other Construction Department related questions.
  • The Town will be erring on the side of caution and the inspectors will be using discretion when entering dwellings and interacting with individuals. Only essential contractors, homeowners, or authorized representatives necessary for the completion of any inspection shall be on site during such inspection in an effort to limit unnecessary contact. Telephone screening for COVID-19 will be conducted prior to any inspection.

Bureau of Fire Prevention

  • Residential Smoke, Carbon Monoxide, and Fire Extinguisher inspections for resale and rental of residential dwellings will be conducted at the discretion of the Fire Official. Application drop off and pick up will be available by appointment only. Please call 201-330-2059 for appointments or for any other Fire Prevention related questions.
  • Commercial Fire Inspections be conducted at the discretion of the Fire Official. Application drop off and pick up will be available by appointment only. Please call 201-330-2059 for appointments or for any other Fire Prevention related questions.
  • The Town will be erring on the side of caution and the inspectors will be using discretion when entering dwellings and interacting with individuals. Only essential persons, homeowners, or authorized representatives necessary for the completion of any inspection shall be on site during such inspection in an effort to limit unnecessary contact.
  • Telephone screening for COVID-19 will be conducted prior to any inspection.

Town Clerk

  • While physical access to the Town Clerk’s Office is restricted, residents are advised that most transactions involving the Town Clerk’s Office can be done via phone at 201-330-2017. Please call with any questions or for appointments.

Reports will be emailed, faxed, or mailed to you at the location requested.  Please note that request response may take longer than usual during this time. 

Secaucus Public Library

  • The Secaucus Public Library will be closed through March 20, 2020. Due dates for materials will be pushed until April 1, 2020. Library staff will be available for questions via telephone only at 201-330-2084. Staff will make a continuing determination as to public access before the date above.

 Garbage & Recycling; DPW

  • Curbside garbage and recycling will operate on a normal schedule.
  • Residents are advised to not put out large bulk items until further notice.
  • While essential services will be provided around the Town, DPW sanitary sewer or other services in resident homes will be suspended until further notice.
  • Please understand that Town employees may wear protective items and limit interaction with residents during this time in an effort to keep all healthy and safe.
  • Please call the DPW at 201-330-2080 for any other questions.

 Parks

  • All Parks will remain open under the normal schedule and will be sanitized frequently. However, while Town parks and outdoor facilities will remain open, the Hudson County Health Department recommends social distancing. We ask all residents to consider the same when making decisions for themselves and their children.

 Parking Updates

  • Street sweeping will remain suspended through April 30, 2020.

Secaucus Public Schools

  • The Secaucus School District will be closed until April 3, 2020, for all students as a precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of everyone. All student activities and clubs are cancelled during this time. The free and reduced lunch program will continue for all eligible families and information will be provided by the SBOE. Please check the SBOE website for all school related updates and information at https://www.sboe.org

Emergency Services Note

Please be advised that you may see EMS, Police or other emergency responders in protective gear of varying levels.  Each Department has protocols that will be followed as precautionary for the safety and health of all persons.  Please do not be alarmed but know that our first responders are taking steps to ensure appropriate and safe response to calls.
