Mayor Gonnelli Message - 3-19-20

This morning I was informed that a resident in Secaucus has tested positive for the coronavirus. Frankly, this is something we fully expected to happen, and we will certainly have more positive results as testing progresses. This is not a cause for panic. All the work my Administration and staff have done was in preparation for this. The policies we have put in place, limitations on businesses, closing of town facilities, cancellation of events, etc., all have been in preparation for this.  Our current policies and procedures were developed in close consultation with our Health Officer as well as other local, County and State officials. This situation is unprecedented and ever changing, therefore, I will continue to consult our experts and our policies will be amended as needed to ensure the safety of our residents and business community. This is my priority.

I would also like to caution you that there is much false information being shared on social media. Our police reported earlier this week there was a text message sent out to cellular customers warning of an impending “mandatory quarantine”, which was entirely false. Such messages cause unnecessary concern and anxiety. Please continue to check our website regularly at www.secaucusnj.gov/virus for the most up-to-date information available to us.

Please remain vigilant and continue to practice social distancing. At the same time, reach out to your neighbors and friends to be sure they are being taken care of. It is difficult times like these that we need to pull together as a community. I love this Town and have no doubt we will get through this trying time and end up stronger than we were at the start.

Please remain vigilant and stay safe.

Mayor Michael J. Gonnelli
