Mayor Gonnelli Message - 3-29-20

As many of you are aware, the testing for COVID-19 has increased significantly over the last week. We fully expected that with increased testing would come an increase in the number of our confirmed cases, which has been the case. However, this is no cause for alarm. All the protocols we have put in place and recommendations of the CDC should continue to be followed and is the best way to slow the spread of the virus. Continue to practice social distancing (stay at least 6 feet away from each other), wash hands regularly, avoid touching your face and stay indoors except for essential trips and to get medical care. If you go out to exercise or get some fresh air, be mindful of the people around you.

We have had a few conference calls regarding the pop-up medical facility that will be opening at the Convention Center in Town. They expect the facility will be operational by the end of next week. We will learn more about the number of beds the facility will hold in the coming days. There have been some inaccurate reports and rumors spread that the facility will house COVID patients. I can assure you this is not true. We have been assured by all the people we have spoken to that the facility will NOT provide care for COVID patients. This pop-up facility will provide additional capacity for area hospitals so that those patients being treated for COVID will be able to remain in the area hospitals for treatment.

We are continuing to post the number of confirmed Secaucus cases on our website. The number of COVID cases we report is based on the official records provided to our Health Officer. This is the best information we have to work with. Please visit the website at www.secaucusnj.gov/virus for the latest information on confirmed cases and COVID related developments. The site is updated regularly.

If you have general questions, you may also call Town Hall at 201-330-2007 any time between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. While most of our staff is working from home, our operations continue, and we are here to help.

Please remain vigilant and stay safe.
